Electrical Engineering
IN THE BEGINNING THERE WAS A FLASH OF LIGHT…
My interest in electronics, hardware, and electrical engineering started at the very young age of 8 when I started making simple electrical circuits while learning about the physics behind electricity and magnetism. One day I discovered an electronics book at a local bookstore that described many interesting projects and I was immediately hooked just by flipping through the pages. The different types of components just captured my attention despite myself not understanding their function and purpose at the time. The component that I fell in love with right from the start was the LED (Light Emitting Diode). This was perfect because at the time my father was working for HP (Hewlett Packard) doing electrical engineering and optical engineering work for very influential projects at the time. These meant that I had access to quality electronic components right from the company floor. Around that time I also started visiting Radio Shack where my interests in electronics ran even deeper. I started to read and learn from many publication written by Forrest M. Mims III, which in retrospect, I would consider one of the best authors on the subject of electronics for future engineers. His ability to break down complex topics fundamental to the field of electronics was the reason I excelled at such a young age. By the time I was at Monta Vista High School, I was already building complex circuits for my physics class and building robots, including my attempt at a Mars Rover Themed Tech Challenge. My understanding of electronics would follow me for the rest of my life and play an important part of how I think about science, engineering, and technology.
